Electric shock occurs when electric current passes through the human body due to direct contact with live wires, faulty equipment, or unsafe environments. It can cause burns, nerve damage, heart failure, or even death depending on voltage and exposure duration.
Electric shock can be prevented by using insulated tools, proper grounding, regular equipment inspection, wearing PPE, avoiding wet conditions, and following safety procedures. Common electrical hazards at home include damaged wiring, overloaded sockets, exposed cables, faulty appliances, and water near electrical outlets. These hazards increase risk of electric shock, fire, and equipment failure if not identified and corrected promptly.
After an electric shock incident, immediately disconnect power source if safe, call emergency services, and check breathing and pulse. Administer CPR if trained. Avoid touching victim directly until power is off to prevent secondary shock.
